Audio guide, especially for children
Especially for children we have made our own Dutch audio guide with fun facts about Nathan Sawaya and The Art of the Brick, and also with fascinating information about the works of art.
Download the audioguide before you come, then you have everything ready to make it a great experience. Don’t forget to have your phone properly charged and bring your earphones or headphones!
Treasure hunt
We have a fun, interesting treasure hunt ready and waiting for our younger visitors. If you complete it, then there’s a small treat waiting for you by the entrance. Enjoy!
Hands off, but child friendly
The exhibition is designed to be accessible to children. The sculptures can be understood at several different levels, and their presentation is always child-friendly, starting with a short video that introduces the visitors to the artist. Often children are used to rushing from one display to the next in museums, assuming that the written bits were for grown-ups. In this exhibition that is not the case. Encourage your children at least to read something about their favourite pieces and to use the audio guide as much as they like. It will really help them to dive deeper into the art.
Children are also rewarded at the end of the exhibition for holding back and not touching the display pieces (after all they are made from one of their toys!). There is a green man sitting in a chair there. The chair next to him is empty and not only can you sit there, you get a photo.
To prepare for the exhibition, you may like to read about Nathan Sawaya here on this website. This award-winning artist, a resident of Washington state (he was born in Colville, WA) was the first contemporary artist to introduce works created using Lego as a medium to the art world. He is also the founder of The Art Revolution Foundation, that wants to make art a priority in schools and homes – its mantra is “Art is not optional”. Nathan is is also well-known as the artist-in-residence and consulting producer of the hugely popular programme Lego Masters USA.
